Brocksbushes' 155,000-pumpkin patch is open daily from 16 October, £3.50 a head. Hexham Spook Night and Blyth's fireworks are both on Saturday 31 October.

Halloween in Northumberland has two halves. The pumpkin patches are open now: Brocksbushes, near Stocksfield, opened its field on Saturday 3 October, and Whitehouse Farm near Morpeth starts on 10 October. Then Saturday 31 October carries the big nights out: Hexham Spook Night on Beaumont Street from 2pm and Blyth’s free fireworks at 6pm and 7.30pm.

The quick answer

  • Pumpkin picking: Brocksbushes, Stocksfield, open 3, 4, 10 and 11 October, then every day from 16 to 31 October. Entry £3.50 a head (ages 3 and up), or a £12 family ticket for up to five booked in advance (£14 on the door). Pumpkins cost £1 to £10.
  • Halloween night: Hexham Spook Night, 2pm to 9pm on Beaumont Street, and Blyth’s fireworks at Mermaid Car Park, a low-noise show at 6pm and the full display at 7.30pm, both free.
  • Ghost tours: every Chillingham Castle ghost tour and hunt from 14 to 31 October is marked sold out. Its November dates are still open.

Half term is Monday 26 to Friday 30 October. Our October half term page has the school dates and the daytime museum and railway events; this page is the Halloween side of the week.

Pumpkin patches

Brocksbushes, Stocksfield: 155,000 pumpkins

The farm shop at Stocksfield, NE43 7UB, says it has planted over 155,000 pumpkins this year, from munchkins to giants, all edible. Its Pumpkin Experience page gives the 2026 terms:

  • Open: 3 and 4 October, 10 and 11 October, then every day from 16 to 31 October.
  • Entry: £3.50 per person aged 3 and over, or a family ticket of £12 for up to five people booked online; £14 on the door, and on-the-day entry only if a slot has not sold out.
  • Pumpkins: held at last year’s prices, £1 to £10.
  • Twilight sessions: Friday 16 and Friday 23 October, open until 8pm, with live music and street food.
  • Dogs: only on the Woof Weekend, 10 and 11 October, and Woof Wednesdays, 21 and 28 October, on leads, and never in the under-fives area.
  • Toddler days: Monday 19 to Thursday 22 October, 10am to 2pm, a quieter patch while older children are at school.

Carving kits, the carnival rides and face painting are paid for separately. The Play Barn is a separate ticket. Tickets are non-refundable but can be moved with 24 hours’ notice. The farm warns the field is hilly and muddy, so wear wellies.

Whitehouse Farm Centre, Morpeth: an indoor patch

Whitehouse Farm’s Halloween Spooktacular runs on 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18 October and every day from 23 to 31 October. The pumpkin patch is indoors, and each full-paying child gets one free pumpkin. The day also includes a carving station, new interactive shows, a “Walkway of Terror” and a fancy dress competition.

Prices online are £18.50 for children aged 2 to 16, £16.95 for adults, or £64.95 for a family of four; walk-in prices are higher (£20 a child, £17.95 an adult). Under-2s are free with a paying child. For under-fives, the farm’s separate Tots Pumpkin Party runs on 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 October. The farm is at Morpeth, NE61 6AW.

Halloween night, Saturday 31 October

Hexham Spook Night

Hexham Town Council’s Spook Night takes over Beaumont Street from 2pm to 9pm. The council lists it as an annual event with rides and competitions.

Blyth’s Halloween fireworks

Blyth Town Council’s fireworks are at Mermaid Car Park, NE24 3PL, with a funfair, food traders, a Halloween disco and Halloween characters from 4pm, a low-noise display at 6pm for young children and anyone who finds fireworks hard, and the full display at 7.30pm. Everything is free. Mermaid Car Park closes from 4pm and there is no parking on site; the council asks people not to park on verges or residential streets. Before that, the council’s free Halloween week runs in the Market Pavilion, Tuesday 27 to Saturday 31 October, 10am to 4pm, with a costumed parade round the Marketplace at 3pm on Friday 30 October.

Morpeth’s bonfire is the next night, Sunday 1 November; all the displays are on our fireworks page.

Halloween weekend on the Aln Valley Railway

The Aln Valley Railway runs steam-hauled trains and a bat trail from Lionheart Station, Alnwick, on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November.

Halloween at the big houses and castles

Spookydorei at Lilidorei, Alnwick

The play village next to The Alnwick Garden decorates every corner for Spookydorei Days, 10 October to 1 November: open 10am to 5pm until 23 October and 10am to 4pm in half term week, with riddles and games for sweets. Spookydorei Nights runs from Friday 23 to Saturday 31 October, after dark, with mild jump scares. Both are booked in advance. The Garden’s own Pumpkin Garden is free with Garden entry.

The Great Pumpkin Party at Belsay Hall

English Heritage’s Great Pumpkin Party runs Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November, 10am to 4pm, at Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens, near Morpeth (NE20 0DX): storytelling, spooky games, a themed trail and a daily fancy dress competition. It is included in standard admission; booking ahead saves 15% and members go free.

Gory Stories at Bamburgh Castle

Bamburgh’s storyteller tells grisly tales in the Keep Hall on 24, 25, 30 and 31 October at 11.15am and 2.15pm, included with castle admission. The castle’s page says to meet at the bottle-shaped door to the Keep.

Chillingham Castle ghost tours: sold out

Chillingham sells evening ghost tours (over-16s), overnight ghost hunts (over-18s) and family ghost tours. Its ghosts page marks every tour and hunt from 14 to 31 October as sold out, including the Halloween night ghost tours and hunt. The Monday 12 October ghost tour is not marked sold out, and the November dates, starting with a ghost hunt on Friday 6 November, are still on sale.

Trails

  • The Scarycrow Trail, Ford and Etal, 26 October to 1 November. Villagers build “Scarycrows” and visitors score them; it has run for more than 19 years. Free, with a donation for the map (Ford and Etal).
  • Pumpkin trail, Woodhorn Museum, Ashington, 14 October to 1 November, 10am to 4pm, included with Woodhorn’s annual pass admission (Woodhorn).
  • Hexham’s Gruesome Walking Tour, every Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 1.30pm (Hexham Town Council).

Getting there and parking

Brocksbushes and Whitehouse Farm both have their own parking. In the towns, most council car parks are free but short-stay bays in Alnwick, Berwick, Hexham, Morpeth and Ponteland need a £1 parking disc: see our parking page. Roadworks on the way are on the roadworks and travel page.

Still to be confirmed

  • Brocksbushes’ daily opening hours, which its page does not print; times are chosen when you book.
  • Extra buses for the Blyth fireworks, which the town council says to look out for.
